Union Hill High School was
selected as one of America's best High Schools across the
nation according to data analyzed from the 2005-2006 school
year. The U.S. News and World Report methodology was based on
key principles that a great High School must serve all its
students well, not just those bound for college.
Out of 18,790 public high
schools across 40 states that were analyzed, a three step
process for analysis was used:
-
Step 1: Ensured that the
school served all of their students well, using state
proficiency standards as the measuring benchmark.
-
Step 2: Determined whether
the school's least-advantaged students were performing
better than average for similar students in the state. The
data surveyed was collected from the school's math and
reading proficiency rates.
-
Step 3:
Measured which schools produced the best college-level
achievement for the highest percentage of their students.
Upon completion of this
analysis, schools received honors in Gold, Silver and Bronze
categories. From the 18,790 schools from 40 states analyzed,
100 earned Gold Medals, 405 earned Silver medals and 1,086
schools earned Bronze. Union Hill High School received a
Bronze medal for overall student performance which consisted
of measures from Step 1 & Step 2. Recently Union Hill High
School has earned Gold Performance Acknowledgments from their
state assessment tests which include: High School Attendance
Rate, High Percentage of Students on the Recommended High
School Program, Texas Success Initiative (English Language
Arts and Math), and commended on Social Studies.
